Producing Artistic Director
JOHN SINNER

John Sinner is the founder and producing artistic director of Theatre Revelation.

John has worked with the Los Angeles Theatre Center (with artists Reza Abdoh, Alan Mandell, Adam Soch,  Luis Alfaro and Susan Rubin amongst others), A.S.K. Theatre Projects, Shakespeare Festival/L.A., the Lannan Foundation, and Chamber Repertory Theatre touring company.  John was also Assistant Director to Rod Marriott and Elise Thoron on original works by Joe Pintauro and Timothy Mason.

John trained at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center/National Theatre Institute, at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in England and at Trinity College in Ireland.

In John's words:  "Antonin Artaud, the founder of theatre of cruelty has a great quote about what theatre artists should be, and he said that 'Theatre artists should be as if burning at the stake and signaling through the flames.'   Right now our country and globe, metaphorically and too often literally, are on fire. Here in this film industry city in which we live, we are often asked “Why are you working with an avant-garde theatre company in L.A.?”  Trying to survive and thrive in L.A. as an experimental theatre company can be akin to a fish hitting its head against the glass wall of a confining water tank, but we continue to plug away at our creative ambitions and goals, presenting our idiosyncratic body of work, and reaching out.  I know our company feels truly impassioned about our productions, and we feel privileged to present our work to an ever-expanding audience."

Theatre Revelation

Theatre Revelation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) theatrical production company.  We are based in Los Angeles, California, and we present our theatrical productions and workshops in L.A. as well as in other cities in the U.S., Europe and elsewhere.

Theatre Revelation actively seeks to present and travel its productions nationally and internationally -- so we encourage you to contact us (see "CONTACT INFO" below) to discuss possible presentations or co-productions in cities throughout the world.

Theatre Revelation's artistic mission is to create, nurture and produce new, innovative and experimental theatre works that use a multi-disciplinary, multi-media approach to expand the boundaries of traditional theatre. The inspiration and leadership for Theatre Revelation stem from its founding director, John Sinner

As a classically-trained surrealist theatre artist working out of the industry town that is his native-born L.A., and as a feminist and gay man living with multiple sclerosis, John's writing and direction have led our company to telling the stories (dramatic, comedic, fantastic) of characters who do not have a seat at the table of the more dominant society, about the physical and psychic toll that such disconnect from the mainstream takes on them, and the struggles and successes of their efforts to achieve empowerment, escape and freedom, real and imagined.  Our productions often use stylized language, movement and dance set in dreamlike visual and sonic landscapes, mixing darkness with light, mayhem with musical numbers, laughter with surreal. In John Sinner's words: "exhilaration can be found when we push beyond the collapsing walls of our war-torn world, however briefly or absurdly, and find solace in the mere act of creation."  (See column at the top of this page for John Sinner's bio.

FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT RECENT PRODUCTIONS, GO TO OUR PRODUCTIONS PAGE and also see our overview HOME PAGE by clicking onto one of the PURPLE TABS below. .

Theatre Revelation is proud to be associated for many years with so many extraordinarily creative collaborators.  For a sample list of just some of those, see THEATRE REVELATION's PRODUCTION TEAM and CAST columns above.

Theatre Revelation's community outreach includes the active participation of our artistic director as a spokesperson for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's Living Well program. For more on that, click on this National MS Society link to watch a video on John's"Living Well with MS". Through John, Theatre Revelation participates in programs with the MS Society, by John's continuing to actively speak at in-person seminars to those newly diagnosed with MS, and also through the company's encouraging persons in the MS community (via free ticket programs) to come out to the theatre to see first hand how very live and vibrant theatre can be and is in fact run by one "Living Well" with the disease.

Funding for Theatre Revelation  -- a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation -- comes entirely from a wonderfully supportive and ever-expanding, diverse community of charitable funders and private donors contributing at various donation levels. Theatre Revelation also was the recent recipient of a Durfee Foundation grant. For more on contributing to Theatre Revelation, contact us below.
